Since its inception in February 2020, Hello Foundation has accomplished many milestones within just over a year. Some of these milestones include being able to serve more than 250 000 warm meals to date, to underprivileged kids & elderly individuals in communities such as Tsakane & Tembisa – a number which keeps growing as we continue to endeavour to feed over 300 individuals on a daily basis.

INITIATIVES

This year, during the third term school holidays, Hello Foundation also had the privilege of taking a group of 130 kids on their first ever field trip to the Johannesburg Zoo. Each kid was provided with a goodie bag filled with snacks and also received a Lego set to keep them occupied during the holidays. What a sight it was to see the pure joy and excitement on the faces of these kids!

Other initiatives, either undertook by Hello Foundation itself or through other organizations that approached Hello Foundation over the past year, contributed donations in the form of:

• Sanitary Pads: More than 2000 packs donated so far, to help keep our young girls at school
• Community Gardens: 5 community members provided with the skills and resources to plant and maintain their own vegetable gardens
• Stationery: 300 stationery packs that provided young scholars with the essentials needed in the classroom
• Mealie Meal: as a staple food in many households, 200 5kg bags of mealie meal were donated on behalf of an external donor
• Food Hampers: 200 hampers donated by SANZAF, a faith-based NPO
• Gift hampers for Eid: 30 Eid gift hampers donated by an eternal donor, consisting of clothing, shoes, toys, novelties and personal hygiene items.

With the COVID-19 pandemic affecting the livelihoods of many South Africans, individuals who already faced harsh living conditions prior to the pandemic suffered more greatly. It has been impossible to ignore the struggles faced by thousands of households across South Africa and the need for corporate institutions to step up and play a role in supporting social issues became more imperative. Through the various initiatives supported by Hello Foundation, Hello Group has made it a mission to contribute towards alleviating poverty in South Africa one step at a time.
